The Report: This was a Next Adventure Staff Surfing Day. Five of us met at the PSC on our day off. We got our boats, SUPS, surf boards and dry suits ready and headed to the Oregon coast.
After the 1.5 hour drive, we piled out of our gear packed cars, made detours to the bathroom, and scouted out our playground. We made a plan of attack and started getting ready. After dressing and carrying our gear down to the beach we all plunged into the Pacific.
We battled past the breaking waves and realized some of these sets were much bigger than they looked from shore. After a while of watching my friends catch waves, I decided it was my turn to get some. I had a few good rides, but definitely got pummeled and owned by the sea. We all had plenty of opportunities to work on our combat roll, some better than others! We took turns switch out and trying different boats.
It was a day of teaching and learning moments. We each shared our expertise and how we could set up future classes. We discussed a lot about safety and how to deal with different situations.
At the end of the day, it was a long trek back to the car, carrying our wet gear. We were all exhausted but had smiles on our faces. We agreed to meet for one beer and then head back to Portland. What a great day!!
