Staff Pick: Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily Hoody
I wore a Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily Hoody almost every day during a 5-month, 3,000-mile backpacking trip along the Continental Divide this past summer, and was thoroughly impressed by its versatility, comfort, and durability. I’ve never been a fan of long-sleeve hiking shirts, but the Capilene hoody was light enough that I often forgot about the longer sleeves, which protected my arms during long days in the sun crossing the deserts of New Mexico. Though lightweight and cool on hot sunny days, the hoody also provided just the right boost of warmth when hiking through snowfields in Colorado and braving early-season storms in Montana. I loved how the polyester fabric wicked away sweat and dried quickly, and I even wore the shirt swimming in Wyoming. I never once got sunburned, and after 3,000 miles of hiking, the Hoody still feels and looks brand new (after a thorough washing, of course).
