Full Review: Ive taken these shoes through the Ape Caves, Lava Canyon hike, and a couple quick trips in Forest Park. They're exactly what I was looking for. A low profile, breathable shoe, with good traction for the drier months in Oregon. The Rapid LT's provided great traction within the wet confines of the Ape Caves, but on the flip side, wet traction in Forest Park was lacking. Different types of rock but it is something to be noted. If you are hiking during the drier months and happen to cross a small stream or some run off, then it shouldn't be a big deal especially after a few dry steps. Traction on a variety of dry surfaces was no problem and while not the most aggressive tread pattern, the shoes performed very well.
Your foot remains locked down, and with the number of eye-lets it's easy to get a comffortably snug fit. With most of the upper being mesh, the shoe is very breathable. Wore thicker full cushion socks for the coolness of the Ape Caves and wore the same socks for our quick hike through the Lava Canyon right after on a warm day and my feet never got sweaty. When coupled with the right socks, these shoes should be fine even for the hottest days.
The Good List: Good foot lockdown. Solid support from a lighter weight shoe. Breathable.
The Not so Good List: Wet grip seems a bit suspect depending on the rock.
The Bottom Line: Great low profile shoe that is comfortable and breathable making it ideal for the drier months.
