Gear Review: Wilderness Technology Honu 60 Backpack

Value Rating: 10 Durability Rating: 10 Overall Rating: 10 Location of Test: Jedediah State Park Duration of Test: Just beginning... Product Name: Honu 60 Product Brand: Wilderness Technology Best Use: Backpacking Size: 60 liter pack Honu 60 The Full Review: The Honu 60 is a versatile and affordable pack, an excellent choice for those looking for a solid pack without a spendy price tag. At sixty liters, it’s a great choice for longer backpacking trips. With a removable lid that converts into a fanny pack (comes with the strap!), you can decrease the volume for shorter trips. The Honu has plenty of pockets: two in the lid, with a mesh separator in one, a bladder sleeve, two long deep pockets on the front, a large side panel, a small zippered stash pocket just behind one of the water bottle pockets, and the crucial hip belt pockets. A zipper along the side gives access to the interior of the pack for easy access to your gear without taking everything out. Daisy chain loops along the front and Velcro straps give plenty of options for strapping gear to the outside of this pack. I choose this pack for its versatility and low price. I'm taking this pack on a journey throughout Central America, wanting a pack that could fit my needs without having to spend too much, for there is a real possibility that my pack could get stolen. So far, it's held up wonderfully, doing its job wonderfully when I pulled it out for an overnight in the Redwoods. My hope is that this pack will hold up to wear and tear that travel will put on it, and I will post another review after a couple months on road. Honu 60 The Good Detachable lid with strap for easy fanny pack conversion, side access into the pack, hip pockets, velcro straps for secure trek pole attachment, comfortable, plenty of pockets for organizing, affordable, sturdy, versatile. The Bad: Not much ventilation, a bit of a confusing torso length adjustment, water bottle pockets are a bit shallow, lid tends to pull down over the load lifters making it difficult to adjust them sometimes. The Bottom Line: You can't go wrong with the value of this pack. It's extremely versatile, spacious, and the ease of access to gear is a huge plus. I'd highly recommend for anyone wanting to gear up without breaking the bank, or one who'd like to add another solid pack to the collection. Honu 60
