Durability Rating: 8
Overall Rating: 8
Product Name: Union Suit
Product Brand: Immersion Research
Best Use: Cold weather/water kayaking
Specs/sizes available: SM - XXL, fleece base layer
The Full Review:
This performed beautifully as a base layer for kayaking in cold weather with air temps in the high 20's and water temps just above freezing. Used in conjunction with a wicking layer underneath and light fleece on top I found myself sweating the whole run and would have been fine without the fleece top. The highlight of the suit is that it doesn't ride up in the arms and legs while putting on the dry suit. Also, since it is a one-piece suit the middle can't ride up creating pressure points under the PFD. Aside from kayaking the suit performed well as a snowboarding base layer by bridging the gap between the jacket and pants.
The Good:
Great insulation.
Soft comfortable fabric.
Doesn't ride up under dry suit.
The Bad:
At $109.99 the price feels a bit high but well worth every penny.
The Bottom Line:
The IR Union Suit is a great all-around base layer for cold weather adventures with an emphasis on kayaking.
