Consisting of only 18 members, the Walla Walla Disc Golf Club hosted a record 145-player turnout for the 5th Annual 2012 Aloha Sushi Classic. Thanks to all of their hard work, both 18-hole courses were in excellent shape and ready for tournament play!
Portland Disc Golfers Tim Price and Jason Pinkal checking out the Fort Walla Walla Disc Golf Course Flight Crew members Ryan Gwillim and myself made our way through the beautiful Columbia River Gorge from Portland to Walla Walla to play in the advanced field at one of the best Washington tournaments of the year. After a slow start, Ryan shot a hot second round and even hotter third round to finish 7th. I started out well but struggled a little in the last round on Sunday, unable to find birdies as the leader ran away with it and I finished 5th place overall. Jason Carr from Puyallup, Washington--fresh off his win from the Disco Ball in Bend--held off Mckenzie Baldwin from Springfield, Oregon, shooting a smoking hot 1028-rated round for the win in the advanced division. It was a lot of fun playing with those two and seeing some great golfing on all three rounds! The Title Sponsor Aloha Sushi closed its doors to regular patrons and opened them to disc golfers on Saturday Night to host the Players Party. Lots of great sushi was eaten and a few Sake Bombs were consumed! What a blast getting to hang out and eat sushi with players from all over the Northwest! Thank you Aloha Sushi!!!!

Never fear, we were ready to go early the next morning! This was the second year that Kristopher Bland was the tournament director for the Aloha Sushi Classic, and he didn't disappoint. He took over the reins in 2011 and has continued to build on the tradition and success of the ASC, making it a tournament that people travel from all over the Northwest in which to play. One of the great successes this year was seeing a large Recreational division as well as TWO Junior divisions. Great job Kris and Walla Walla Disc Golf Club for inspiring and supporting our younger players!
ASC TD Kristopher Bland...Thanks again for everything Kris!
