Event Report: Rose City Open
2014 Rose City Open 5/15/2014
Location: Pier Park
Dan Brown and Disc Golf Or Die hosted another great Rose City Open this past weekend in North Portland’s Pier Park. The weather was all over the place with dense clouds, light rain, heavy rain, sporadic winds, and even a few sun breaks at times. The one constant was some exciting disc golf being played by 140 competitors in 6 different divisions.
The main story line this year, other than the capricious weather, was 5 of the 6 divisions ending in a tie after 54 holes of competition. The men’s pro division was won by Kyle Crabtree, from Fife WA. in a playoff over local Pro Denny Axmacher. The Men’s Pro Masters division saw Jeff Cox beat out Jay Harbour (Mr. Huk Lab) in another playoff. Andrew Nava shot a blistering
hot 3rd round 47 to force Matt Owens into a playoff. Matt was able to hold him off taking the Advanced Men’s title. Advance’s Women’s Robin Sampson and Advanced Men’s Master George Bodiroga both won their divisions in playoffs as well. See all of the results here: http://www.pdga.com/tour/event/17510

Disc Golf season is now in full swing with an exciting season ahead including the 2014 Pro Worlds that will see over 350 of the best players in the world take on 5 different courses in the area over the weeklong event in August. So make sure to check back for more blogs and details!
